Making use of synthetic modes, this work was originally called Continuance for its use of nuances and motives. Since each movement has a prevailing mood, it was lated renamed Three Moods. The first movement, Dramatic is based on various intervals, is chromatic in sections and changes time signatures frequently. Lyrical is short featuring the piano more than the horn. In the last movement, Playful, the horn and piano banter playfully in 3/8 time.
