Professor Swain (Cal State-LA) gives us understandable empirical discussions of acoustics, instrument design and construction, intonation characteristics and compensating mechanisms, mouthpieces, mutes, and maintenance. There are also extensive transposition charts and a large array of fingering charts that include the more unusual brasses. A highly recommended resource for serious players and teachers.
