A substantial addition to the trumpet repertoire by this ASCAP award-winning composer and professor at the Crane School of Music who had composed music for the 1980 Olympics. The Sonata, cast in 3 movements, is a neo-tonal work of angular melodic lines and dense, biting harmonies giving the work a vigorous contemporary quality. It relies on the construction of melodic and harmonic cells, and seeks to strike a balance between both instruments in terms of musical importance. The piano part often has nice chord patterns in fourths and fifths. Challenging and exciting recital material for the advanced player. Part for C trumpet.
