Zhu Qi Dong, trumpet instructor at the Shanghai Conservatory incorporated Chinese folk elements with Western compositional techniques to develop a result which retains the Chinese musical heritage while presenting it in an idiom accessible to western listeners in this solo for Bb trumpet and piano. The folk songs are from the central province of Sansi. The pentatonic piano flourishes embellish the lovely trumpet folk melodies. This is a fun piece to play and a favorite for audiences.
