About This Score

Ars Nova Duets arranged by Ken Singleton

arr. by Ken Singleton

Ken Singleton has arranged this group of 15 Ars Nova duets for the two conical members of the brass family, the horn and tuba. The Ars Nova era in music covers the 14th century. It described emerging styles and a shift away from religious music. The music had greater rhythmic complexity through the use of syncopation and hocket, and fixed secular forms emerged. Although transcribed for horn and tuba, the lower part can be played by trombone or euphonium. All dynamics, phrasing and articulations are editorial. Composers included are: Jacopo de Bologna, Guillaume de Machaut, Francesco Landini, Jacob Senleches, Donatus de Florentia, Ser Feo, Johannes Ciconia, and Gherardello da Firenze. A popular book from Queen City Brass Publications, worthy of use on any recital.
